Broken leg, Donald Trump, Joe Biden, etc.

I haven’t posted for a bit. On August 4, I was incredibly careless and fell at my home, breaking my femur at the ball joint.

After a 4.5-hour surgery at a hospital in Springfield, Mo., about two hours away from home, the surgeon was able to repair things. This was all complicated by an earlier femur break from a 2015 car accident. That’s why I couldn’t get the repair closer to home, too.

In the aftermath

After three days in the hospital, I spent 16 days in rehab, then home. I had been in the midst of teaching two online courses for the U of Phoenix online. I managed to finish one. But I had to drop the other mid-way through and cancel two upcoming ones. I also left other things undone, obviously. But despite some complications both in surgery and later, I’m doing great. I’m walking a bit without a cane and with one much of the time. My home health care from nurses and therapists has been just wonderful. And those great folks are the reason I’ve healed so well for an old woman.

Lots to write about

There’s been so much to write about since I’ve been away. But I’m only going to hit you with some snippets. Here goes:

Weaponizing the Justice Department?

Hardly. Just ask Senator Menendez and Hunter Biden, for example. And please, please just look at the charges facing you-know-who and tell me they are unwarranted charges. Obviously, the former president will have his day in court.

Too many migrants

Of course, there are. The system can’t handle them. But look around your own communities. Nearly every motel and restaurant that I see is looking for help. A new restaurant we love to frequent in a nearby town has now cut its hours due to lack of help. Migrants would love many of these jobs. We just haven’t developed a good way to get those in need to where the jobs are and to get those rightfully due grants of asylum approved for work.

But our nation has the resources and abilities to figure out a solution to this problem. And party bickering, Greg Abbott and Ron DeSantis shenanigans with buses and airplanes don’t help one bit.

Worldwide refugees are here to stay

We need to figure this out because worldwide some 68 million people are considered refugees. This is caused by war, climate change and political turmoil. The problem won’t go away. And the nations with resources need to help develop means to assist and solve the problems. Aren’t we blessed to be where we are with the means for a relatively easy life?

Ages of candidates

Certainly it would be best if Joe Biden weren’t 80. But the Democrats haven’t done well in preparing someone else to take the helm. And who can bash his administration’s records? I know people are concerned about inflation. But it’s actually dropping. And the legislative accomplishments are stellar. Donald Trump, 77, isn’t much younger. And he clearly isn’t fit to serve. There are other GOP candidates who might be better, DeSantis excluded. But they don’t seem to be making any inroads. GOP Candidate Nikki Haley is right in say Congress is a well-funded “nursing home.” And her call for term limits is in order big time! Senator Mitt Romney, in announcing he would not run again, also was right to call for a new generation of leadership. I’m 76. I am capable of many things still. But I’m not capable of legislating, much less having my finger near the nuclear codes.

More later, but parting words

I’ll write more on these and other topics soon. But I do want to leave you with this word of caution. Do not try to walk across the two air mattresses you’ve placed on the floor as sleeping quarters for your grandsons, with your hands full. And do not reach for a closet door handle to steady you unless you’re sure that door won’t fall to the ground, taking you with it. Yes, that’s how I broke my femur. Oh my!
