I’m listening to Smerconish on CNN this morning discussing the real origins of COVID.

Former NYT Science Writer

He was interviewing former New York Times Science Writer Nicholas Wade. The conclusion is we don’t know yet how the virus originated but surely will one day. Wade felt it was in China’s interests to be somewhat transparent in that respect. China transparent? Well, maybe!

President Trump

President Trump, for whom I have no respect, always called this the “China virus” after all. Maybe he was right.

Retired Military View Early On

It’s funny, but I was in training for the U.S. Census early in 2020 as the virus was first starting to raise alarm. Several retired military men in my training  class didn’t hesitate: This was a Chinese weapon that got out of hand. Could that be right?

I Pooh-Poohed That

I paid that no heed. Instead I continued to think this came about by accident from markets in Wuhan. Since I’m vegetarian, I don’t like the idea of those wet markets anyway. I also took the virus lightly at first, until I started watching the death toll rise.

But Now New Reports

But now we see reports that some Wuhan lab scientists were hospitalized. COVID? We don’t know. But it’s highly suspicious. I hope the reports will continue. While controlling the spread of the virus is the most important, understanding any underlying origins is critical.
