Editor's Kid

Slash, chop, slash; isn’t there another way?

I can’t imagine any Americans being happy with what they’ve seen of our unelected president, Elon Musk, doing with the elected president’s supposed blessing. Saving money? I suppose. But the lawsuits may drag out for a while, leaving many government and USAID employees in limb0, along with their important programs.

How this should work

So what happens normally when administrations change? It’s not easy, for sure. But take USAID, for example. If the current administration doesn’t like the way the program has been handled the past four years, the president (the real president, not Musk) can just change administrators with specific instructions about shaving back certain programs, perhaps cutting staff in an organized way.

As this is

Right now, USAID all over the globe have no idea where they are to go and when. They are often stationed with family members and have children in school. If they are cut off, what happens to their travel home, are they to remove children from school at this time of year, are they to close up home and shop abruptly without government assistance? This makes no sense. It’s cruel and hurtful to people who have served us well.

The same with other Musk actions

While DJT is busy with his signing pen, make no mistake. He’s not running the country. The un-elected, South African born Musk is. And Vice President J.D. Vance is just a “yes” man to Musk. Is this truly what the 49 percent of Americans who elected DJT were expecting? And don’t forget, Musk has billions of U.S. defense and space controls, so he has an obvious conflict of interest.

Aid to countries and perhaps China

As we cut off aid to other nations and dismantle other government programs (climate change, World Health Organization, for example), China is waiting at the doorstep to hop in, damaging U.S. world influence.

Invading or annexing sovereign countries

And then there is Canada, Greenland and the Panama Canal. Can anyone possibly think we can take those away from independent people just because it strikes DJT as a good idea? Are you willing to have U.S. military involved?

Gaza as a new riviera

It’s even more foolhardy, if that’s possible, for resort developer DJT with dollar signs shining in his eyes, to suggest the removal of 2 million Palestinians in order to turn Gaza into a riviera-type resort under U.S. control. Of course, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, appearing on stage with DJT at the time, agreed and continues to praise this idea.

Netanyahu and Trump

Of course, Netanyahu and DJT are cut from the same cloth, both face criminal charges. In Trump’s case those have been either dismissed or halted while he’s in office (except for the financial corruption case in NYC in which he was fined $364 million and the corruption case involving adult film star Stormy Daniels which resulted in probation). Netanyahu, though, has been charged with fraud, bribery and breach of trust in three cases filed in 2019. He can be sentenced to up to 10 years in jail and/or a fine if convicted in a bribery case. Those trials were first posed for Covid and now for the war with Gaza. It’s also in Netanyahu’s favor to keep that war going because many believe he would not be re-elected if elections were held.

But the Gaza idea is insane frankly

It’s hard to believe that a Jewish state would proceed with a genocide of Palestinians, which is truly what has happened. Netanyahu says Gaza must be emptied to the country can be rebuilt. Who destroyed it? He did. Who was caught with his pants down on Oct. 7 when his intelligence failed to alert Israel to the pending Hamas attack. Who has indiscriminately slaughtered 40,000 Palestinians while searching for Hamas members? Don’t you realize, Mr. Prime Minister and DJT, that up to 15,000 new Hamas members have joined in the mayhem you created?

Obviously this shouldn’t be allowed

None of president Musk/Trump’s actions should go unchecked. And thank goodness, so far the judiciary has blocked some of the moves. Let’s hope that changes. Yes, dead wood needs to go. Yes, ineffective programs need to go. But you know, as I’ve said before, the U.S. can solve the budget problems by taxing the wealthy instead of cutting their taxes. PLEASE pay attention, people.
