What the Election Says About Us

Thomas Friedman of The New York Times was a guest on Anderson Cooper’s CNN show the other night. He said this election says more about “us” as a country than it does about Donald Trump or Joe Biden.

What the Heck Does That Mean?

What the heck does that mean? It means that the election is about the moral values we hold true as a country. Not putting words in Mr. Friedman’s mouth, but where do we see ourselves on the world stage? How do we feel about people who may not look like us, worship like us, love like us? How do we feel about lies and the truth?

Who Are Our Friends?

Who do we chose as friends on the world stage? Would that be brutal dictators who have been accused of murdering opponents or trying to? Would that be our long-term NATO allies?

Science or Pop Answers?

Do we trust doctors like Anthony Fauci? Or do we believe in popular off-the-cuff remedies for the pandemic that has killed close to 300,000 Americans?

Truth or Fiction?

Do we believe in governmental transparency? Or would we rather trust a president who says whatever seems convenient at the time? That would be something like the virus is just going away quickly. Or, we’ve rounded the corner.

Hints of Scandal

Do we want to trust a former vice president who has had no hints of scandal in his past? Or do we trust a president who has  been accused of sexually assaulting more than two dozen women? This isn’t even including the Access Hollywood tape with Trump bragging about his exploits. And it doesn’t include his pay-offs to a Playboy bunny and porn star that Trump apparently had affairs with shortly after the First Lady gave birth to Barron.

Climate Change

Do we believe in climate change? With California and Colorado burning and serious hurricane and other weather calamities upon us, do we really want to exit the Paris climate accords? Again, do we believe in science?

Please Vote

Perhaps Mr. Biden hasn’t inspired you, though he has me. President Trump has too, in a negative way. We can barely afford the time left in this term, let alone four more years. But please make your voice heard. And I hope it’s for Mr. Biden.
