Please halt aid to Israel

Benjamin Netanyahu doesn’t fit the nickname “Bibi,” which, to me, seems lovable. He isn’t.

Retaliation

In retaliation for the merciless slaughter of 1,200 innocent men, women and children on October 7, he has extracted some 28,000 Palestinian lives and destroyed Gaza. American aid has enabled this in a major part.

Congress

Now Congress, at the request of the White House, is considering adding $14.5 billion in aid to Israel in addition to the $13.3 billion in the regular budget. The U.S. has given Israel some $150 billion in aid since its formation.

No problem!

I have no issue with the money given to Israel in the past. No doubt the fledgling nation needed propping up in the years after WWII when it was created. No doubt it has faced serious threats in the past that deserved aid. But Netanyahu has taken this too far.

Israel has the right to defend itself

As Biden said right after Oct. 7, “Israel has the right to defend itself.” As he embraced Netanyahu, he also pledged support. But Netanyahu has made a fool of the president and his secretary of state, Antony Blinken. Both are working tirelessly to help get the remaining 150 or so hostages released. And they are working to get humanitarian aid to Gaza.

But what does Netanyahu do?

In return, however, the Israeli prime minister keeps the war going primarily to hold onto power. He knows he won’t be re-elected. He’s unpopular, and his administration is blamed for the Oct. 7 slaughter. He’s disliked for his earlier actions to limit the judiciary. His actions are making the U.S. and Israel unpopular throughout the world. They are hurting Biden’s re-election bid, especially with Arab-Americans. Rightly so.

And now Rafah?

And now the besieged Palestinians packed into the southern city of Rafah are being told to move — again! The Israeli Defense Forces believe they must attack Rafah to get at more Hamas terrorists. But more than half the population of Gaza has already fled to Rafah at Israeli direction. They live in shabby tent cities in the cold. Where, oh where are they to go?

Please go to UN Security Council

Again, please halt future U.S. aid to Israel. And please, United States, take your own measure to the U.N. Security Council asking Israel to stop the slaughter. We all know this won’t stop Hamas. It will only make terrorism grow.
